Roger Woodward Piano Recital

Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre 2018 Season

Featuring works by Chopin and Debussy.

Internationally celebrated pianist Roger Woodward is one of the most revered and adventurous artists of our time. He has worked to great acclaim with most of the world’s celebrated orchestras and conductors, including Abbado, Mehta, Maazel and Dutoit.

One of Australia’s National Living Treasures, he is a Companion of the Order of Australia, a Chevalier de l’ordre des arts et des lettres of France, a recipient of the Polish Order of Merit, Order of the British Empire and a Fellow of the Chopin Institute (Warsaw).

Yehudi Menuhin discovered twenty-six year old Roger Woodward at the UNESCO Jeunesses Musicales, Paris. Within a year, the young artist made his debut at London’s Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and began recording for the EMI, RCA, Decca, DG, and later the CPO and Universal recording companies. He rose to international prominence in a series of collaborations with Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Boulez, Jean Barraqué, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Iannis Xenakis, Arvo Pärt, John Cage, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Morton Feldman, Sylvano Bussotti, Luciano Berio, Toru Takemitsu, Horatiu Rădulescu, Áskell Másson, Robert Greenberg, Leo Brouwer, James Dillon, Philippe Sarde, Rolf Gehlhaar and prominent composers from his native Australia – in particular, Richard Meale, Anne Boyd, Ross Edwards, Barry Conyngham, Larry Sitsky and Andrew Batt-Rawden.

His concert appearances and recording activities continue to attract exceptional international reviews, confirming his place in the highest echelon of living pianists.
